It’s Friday mid afternoon at the Krishna village and the birds are singing in the trees as people lay in the garden in small groups after lunch, talking and laughing, reading or practicing yoga. Out in the kitchen, volunteer manager Damodar is busy collecting firewood and stoking the kindling in the hand made pizza oven, preparing for the weekly pizza night.
The yoga teacher trainees and retreat guests alike are excited – marking the end of the seva working week and the start of the weekend, pizza night is a time for all Krishna Villagers to come together and bond over good food, conversation and music. Prepared by hand by the kitchen team, the pizzas come in three varieties: margarita, ‘potato with rosemary’ and ‘veggie deluxe’, with a selection of delicious toppings such as capsicum, eggplant and olives. There is also a gluten free and a vegan option, replacing cheese with an amazing white bean sauce or cashew cheese.
As the light begins to fade, a fire gently crackles in the background and people gather around, playing instruments or simply talking and soaking up the atmosphere, reflecting on another week well spent. Come join us at our next pizza night – they are held every Friday evening from around 6.30pm at the Krishna Village.
