Love life, live yoga!

In our modern society, yoga has been deconstructed to be only a shadow of its complete whole. It is far from the complexity and power of the original yogic wisdom, which spans all areas of life and provides a holistic system of health, wellbeing and spiritual connection.

At the Krishna Village, we are aiming to revive and teach yoga in its wholeness, so you can BE a yogi, rather than just DO some yoga. Our Yoga Teacher Training is therefore a full immersion program that spans 6 weeks and will allow you to experience yogic living in its entirety. From daily morning yoga to seva in our organic gardens, from philosophy classes to healthy food preparation, from Kirtan singing to mantra meditation you will live and breathe yoga, while being immersed in a kind, loving and supportive community. You will not only learn all required practices to become a fully accredited yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, but will also gain teaching practice with real students through our retreat centre - first co-teaching with fellow trainees and then bit by bit growing into teaching your own classes.

Keen to come along but you don't want to become a yoga teacher?

Then have a look at our YTT Immersion Retreat option.

Six reasons to embark on your yoga teacher training (YTT)

Still not sure now’s the right time for you to embark on your yoga training? Here are six reasons to take the leap:

1. Deepen your practice with YTT

Yoga teacher training gives you an opportunity to deepen your physical practice. You’ll learn the proper alignment of yoga postures – you may even discover that you’ve been practicing an asana incorrectly for years. You’ll also learn how to make adjustments and modifications to cater to injuries and other limitations.

2. Explore the benefits of yoga beyond the physical

Perhaps you started practicing yoga to improve your physical wellbeing. Our holistic approach to yoga teacher training allows you to discover how yoga can improve your mental wellbeing, too. True yogic wisdom spans all facets of life, giving us the tools we need to find peace and contentment among the chaos.

3. Earn a recognised qualification

Even if you’re not ready to work as a yoga teacher now, your Yoga Alliance accreditation and yoga teacher registration will open up many employment opportunities.

4. Connect with like-minded yogis

Are you desperate to discuss yoga with your friends and family, only to find they just aren’t interested? When you join the Krishna Village community, you will find your yoga family, a supportive network of warriors that are sure to become friends for life. Our team and fellow students all share your passion for the practice of yoga.

5. Explore your spirituality without pressure

Yoga allows us to tune in to our true selves, to return to our default state of peace and relaxation. As we deepen our practice, we may feel vulnerable or confronted by these revelations. Our yoga teacher training is a chance to explore these feelings without judgement or pressure.

6. Share your passion with the world

Sharing your passion for yoga with others is an extremely rewarding career path. If becoming a yoga teacher is what you want, don’t wait. Listen to your intuition and join us for our leading YTT.

Michael ‘Laxmivan’

Michael began his yoga journey at the age of 20 when he left his profession as a studio musician and joined a bhakti Yoga Monastery.

For the next 10 years he travelled Australia, New Zealand and India as a celibate monk, daily studying the traditional yogic canons and engaging in strict daily yogic sadhana.

After another 6 years as a traditional Vedic (Hindu) priest, he took an interest in the more physical aspects of yoga and successfully completed a 3-year diploma course with Satyananda Yoga, before finally finding his passion with Power Vinyasa.

Since then he’s been certified by Baron Baptiste, became certified with Anti Gravity level 2, founded one of Australia’s most successful regional yoga studios, and has helped develop and facilitate many teacher training programs in Australia.

As a teacher trainer, Michael brings with him great integrity and depth, forged by more than 31 years of strict, yet joyful daily practice.

His teaching is full of compassion, humour and authenticity, with a deep respect for tradition, but without being over zealous.

Delicious Vegetarian Food

The Krishna Farm has been producing organic veggies since the 1980s and is well established to grow a variety of high-quality produce, free of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. We grow as much of our own food as we can, and otherwise buy locally wherever possible.

We produce three delicious vegetarian meals every day at the temple kitchen, with food served at the prasadam hall at the top of the hill. Additionally, the village kitchen prepares a bountiful vegan lunch on all days except Saturday, when the volunteers take their day of rest, focusing on produce from the organic gardens and catering to gluten free diets. This lunch is served in the village dining area.

All our food, whether served at the village or the temple, is prasadam - sacred food prepared in a consciousness of loving service. Like in other cultures, we offer our food before we eat to say Grace and thank the Divine for the sun, the rain, and all the visible and invisible blessings necessary to co-create a delicious meal. Feel free to sing along with us, or just listen and enjoy…

The Krishna Farm

Nestled in the foothills of the Wollumbin National Park in the heart of the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, the Hare Krishna Farm “New Govardhana” is a 1000 acre certified organic property with orchards, syntropic vegetable gardens, cows, horses, streams and swimming holes in abundance.

New Govardhana serves as an ashram to a community of yogis who aspire to live according to their deepest vows and commitments on their path of service, spiritual contentment and happiness (Bhakti Yoga). Their service and dedication make this location a beautiful place of growth, healing and spiritual awakening. The temple is the beating heart of the community at New Govardhana and we encourage all who visit the property to come along and experience the lifestyle and philosophy reflected by the practice of Krishna consciousness.
